Financial Management

This module will equip you with foundational financial management skills and introduce you to the concepts, principles, tools and techniques used in financial management and analysis.

We will look at a range of fundamental terminology, concepts and principles including the relationship between investing, financing and operating; financial reporting; the time-value-of-money principle; the risk-return principle; and the cost-benefit principle; and walk you through financial planning techniques as well as analysing and interpreting financial statements.

Human Resource Management

People are complex. To be able to predict how they react, we need to understand how human behaviour works. This, along with understanding the human resource environment, is imperative to ensure the effective management of human resources.

This course focuses on aspects affecting people’s performance and development, starting with principles and processes, then looks at the skills needed to run a human resource department effectively, reviews key labour legislation, and examines planning, recruitment and selection functions. You will emerge with an overview of the process of HR planning, teamwork and motivational requirements, and with a grasp of the essential elements of communication, training and development, as well as performance management.

Information and Communication Technology

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) involves the use of digital technology to access, store and communicate information. This course examines the use of information systems in supporting administrative operations, decision-making, and overall strategic initiatives and corporate philosophies.

However, while technology is responsible for promoting swift communication, we cannot escape written communication. This course therefore looks not only at the technological side of ICT, but also at problem solving and how to make your communication clear, comprehensive and convincing, and will introduce you to the principles of analytical writing and research, as well as presentation skills.

Marketing Management

Marketing, more than any other business function, deals with the customer. Marketing is about managing profitable customer relationships. The central idea underpinning it is matching a company’s capabilities with the wants of a customer in order to achieve the objectives of both parties.

This module covers the basics of marketing, concentrating on the principles and definitions of marketing, and introduces you to customer behaviour before walking you through environmental analysis, market segmentation, developing a product mix strategy, and promotion, pricing and distribution channel planning.

Mentoring and Coaching

Your job, as a manager, is to get results through other people. This course will equip you to mentor and coach staff, helping them to develop and adjust to new roles and challenges.

Mentoring has a number of dimensions: role modelling, career development, relationships, facilitation and confrontation, to name a few. This course will introduce you to the theory behind mentorship programmes and look at setting up, monitoring and evaluating a mentorship programme, as well as equip you with the skills to make a big difference in staff members’ lives.

Project Management

Project management is the carefully planned and organised effort to accomplish a specific (and usually) one-time objective, for example, construct a building or implement a major new computer system. Projects usually follow set phases: feasibility, definition, project planning, implementation, evaluation and support or maintenance.

This module focuses on essential project management concepts, tools and techniques. In it we will look at how to establish project feasibility, develop project plans, identify tasks and how goals will be achieved, quantify the resources needed, determine budgets and timelines for completion, and manage the implementation of the project plan. You will learn how to manage group dynamics and project teams, along with stakeholders, and how to balance time, quality and money.

Fundamentals of Business Management

This course is an integral part of your business studies. It provides insight into general management concepts, will help you develop an understanding of the business environment, and open opportunities for you to explore the latest developments and practices in this field.

We will introduce you to general management principles and functions, and familiarise you with essential decision-making, planning, co-ordinating and control processes, and guide you through what is required of you as a leader.
